SCENE 1:

INTRO OPTION 1A:
(If using this as a stand-alone skit, or if you are starting the series at this point.)

(Darren stands holding a Bible, just staring at the book’s cover when Brook walks in and notices.)

BROOK:
Hey Darren... What are you doing?

DARREN:
Trying to read the Bible.

BROOK:
It helps if you open the book.

DARREN:
(signing helplessly)
I’ve tried that. There are so many big words, and funny names, and-

BROOK:
I bet if it was a computer game, you’d be all into it.

DARREN:
Or just IMAGINE – if we could time travel back, and SEE the Bible stories as they happen!

BROOK:
So, why don’t we try that?!

(Darren holds the Bible while Brook opens it up. Both look at the Bible together, eyes wide and exited.)

INTRO OPTION 1B:

(If you are continuing on in the series.)

(Darren and Brook enter. Darren carries a Bible.)

BROOK:
Last time Moses met up with his brother, Aaron, who was going to help him free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, just as God said. So I’ve been wondering if Moses learned to trust God more?

DARREN:
Me, too. Let’s get ready for imagination time travel!

(Darren holds the Bible up, while Brook opens the Bible. They look with excitement, then look around, wondering.)

SCENE 2:

(Moses and Aaron enter, each with a staff.)

DARREN:
There’s Moses and Aaron now. They just spoke to the Israelites to let them know what God planned to do. And to help them see that this was true, God helped Moses do some miracles, like making his staff become a snake, then back to being a staff again, and making his hand leprous, then making the hand healthy again. And at least the Israelites now have some hope to be freed from slavery.

MOSES:
Thank you for helping me, Aaron.

AARON:
God deserves all the praise. God gave me the words to say. And God gave you the power to do those miracles.

MOSES:
Yes, I now see that it is all from God. I just need to trust God, and obey! Come! It is time to face Pharaoh.

(Aaron and Moses exit in opposite direction. Darren turns a page. Pharaoh steps out. Moses and Aaron approach.)

BROOK:
Okay, so the Israelites trusted Moses now. Are they all going to totally trust God?

MOSES:
Pharaoh, the God of Israel, says “Let My people go that they may celebrate a feast to Me in the wilderness.” If you do not, there will be consequence.

PHARAOH:
Who is God that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know God. And because you want to take the people away from their work, I will assume they are all lazy, so I will make them work even harder. And if they do not, they will be beaten.

(Pharoah exits. Moses and Aaron exit the other direction.)

BROOK:
Oh-oh. Do you think the Israelites will be angry at Moses again? Moses was only doing what God asked.

(Moses enters and gets down on his knees, pleading.)

MOSES:
O Lord, why did You ever send me? Because of You, Pharaoh is now punishing us. You have not delivered Your people at all!

DARREN:
God reminded Moses of the covenant made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His promise that the more the Israelites obey God, the more they will enjoy their promised land and blessings-

BROOK:
And the more you trust God, and see how He works things out, the more you will WANT to obey!

DARREN:
So Moses heard God’s plan! As Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, God would send plagues onto Egypt. This would do several things. God’s people would learn to trust and obey. The world would see God’s power. And the powerful Egyptians would become very weak.

(Darren turns a Bible page. Pharaoh enters from one direction. Moses and Aaron enter from the other.)

MOSES:
Pharaoh, you saw my staff become a snake.

PHARAOH:
My magicians did the same thing.

MOSES:
But my snake ate your snake. This is so you will know God’s power. And God says, “By this you shall know that I am the Lord: I will turn the Nile’s water into blood. It will stink, and it will be undrinkable.”

(Pharoah shakes his head. Aaron stretches out one arm, and with the other taps the floor with his staff.)

DARREN:
All the Nile’s water became blood, which made all the fish die.

BROOK:
Ew! It’s so smelly.

(Darren turns a Bible page. Actors now mime along with what Darren reads. Moses points at Pharaoh who shakes head no. Aaron stretches out his arm.)

DARREN:
Each time a plague happened, Pharaoh said he would let the people go if God removed the plague. But each time, Pharaoh went back on his word and said no, he would not let God’s people go. The next plague was frogs. Everywhere, in their homes, in their-

BROOK:
Bed, and food! Okay, make it stop!

(Brook turns a Bible page, and they all start swatting at gnats.)

DARREN:
Next, gnats in all the land. And up until now, Pharaoh’s magicians were always trying to copy God’s power, but could never do it.

BROOK:
WHY would they even want to add to this misery? Why would they not try to make these bad things go away, instead?

DARREN:
At least the magicians were starting to realize God’s power. Ah, okay-

BROOK:
These gnats are driving me crazy.

DARREN:
(turning Bible page)
So, the next plague was swarms of flies!

BROOK:
They’re EVERYWHERE!!! Except where the Israelites live!

(Brook helps turn a Bible page.)

DARREN:
Next came diseases that killed their animals.

BROOK:
Oh no.
(turning Bible page)

DARREN:
Next came boils and sores on their skin-

BROOK:
Do NOT like that one!
(turning Bible page)

DARREN:
Then a hail-storm so great it destroyed their crops of flax and barley and killed anyone who was outside.

BROOK:
Even the Egyptians started begging Pharaoh to let God’s people go.
(turning Bible page)

PHARAOH:
No – they cannot go.

DARREN:
Then locust came to destroy their trees, and the rest of their crops.

BROOK:
And then?
(turning Bible page)

DARREN:
Darkness. Wherever the Egyptians were, it was so dark they could not see anything.

(LIGHTS could go out completely here. If you can’t, have the actors pretend they cannot see.)

BROOK:
Darren, cannot see anything. I’m scared!

DARREN:
At least the Israelites had light. Okay, I’m turning the page now!

(LIGHTS can come back on. Pharaoh motions with a point. Moses and Aaron exit. Then Pharaoh exits.)

DARREN:
So Pharaoh now told Moses that he did not want to see him ever again. And if he did, Moses was to die! There have been nine plagues so far. There’s one more to go.

(Moses and Aaron enter and speak to congregation.)

DARREN:
(reading Bible)
Moses and Aaron now spoke to the Israelites about what was to happen.

MOSES:
Thus says the Lord, “Around midnight I am going out into the midst of Egypt, and all the firstborn shall die, even Pharaoh’s oldest child will die, even the firstborn of all the animals. You will now see how I will save you.”

AARON:
God wants each family to kill a Passover lamb, then put its blood around the doorways to your homes. That evening, eat the lamb, and make sure you stay inside until morning.

BROOK:
It’s like, when we become Christians. Because Jesus, the Lamb of God, has shed His blood, we are saved from death because the Lord enters our hearts, and covers us with His righteousness.

MOSES:
For the Lord will pass through the land to smite the Egyptians; but when He sees the blood around the doorways, He will pass over and not smite you. And you shall observe this Passover event every year with your families to remember what God has done for you.

(Moses and Aaron slowly exit, motioning to the people.)

DARREN:
Finally Pharaoh insisted the Israelites go. In fact, the Egyptians were so eager for them to leave, they gave the Israelites food, clothing, silver and gold. The Israelites had lived in Egypt for 430 years. And they had been slaves for 400 of those years.

BROOK:
Amazing! God saved His people from slavery just like He saves us from our slavery to sin when we become Christians.

SCENE 3:

ENDING OPTION 3A:
(If using this as a stand-alone skit.)

DARREN:
(closing the Bible)
While God has a plan, even when there are bad things happening to us and around us, there is a purpose, and He is always faithful to help us.

BROOK:
(speaking as they exit)
I’m so glad God loves us that much to never give up on us!

ENDING OPTION 3B:
(If you are continuing on in the series.)

(Darren closes the Bible.)

DARREN:
While God has a plan, even when there are bad things happening to us and around us, there is a purpose, and He is always faithful to help us.

BROOK:
I’m just so thankful that God loves us that much to never give up on us! I can’t wait for next time to find out if the Israelites get back to their promised land.

(Brook comments as they exit.)
