SCENE 1:

INTRO OPTION 1A:
(If using this as a stand-alone skit, or if you are starting the series at this point.)

(Darren stands holding a Bible, just staring at the book’s cover when Brook walks in and notices.)

BROOK:
Hey Darren... What are you doing?

DARREN:
Trying to read the Bible.

BROOK:
It helps if you open the book.

(Darren sighs and looks helplessly at Brook.)

DARREN:
I’ve tried that. There are so many big words, and funny names, and-

BROOK:
I bet if it was a computer game, you’d be all into it.

DARREN:
Or just IMAGINE – if we could time travel back, and SEE the Bible stories as they happen!

BROOK:
So, why don’t we try that?!

(Darren holds the Bible while Brook opens it up. Both look at the Bible together, eyes wide and exited.)

INTRO OPTION 1B:
(If you are continuing on in the series.)

(Darren and Brook enter. Darren carries a Bible.)

BROOK:
Now that people can no longer live in the Garden of Eden, I’m sure things are not going to be easy.

DARREN:
Ready for imagination time travel?

(Darren holds the Bible up, while Brook opens the Bible. They look with excitement, then look around, wondering.)

SCENE 2:

(Cain enters holding a shovel.)

DARREN:
That must be Cain, Adam and Eve’s first son. He grew up and became a farmer.

(Abel enters holding a shepherd’s staff.)

BROOK:
And that would be Abel, Adam and Eve’s next son, who became a shepherd.

(Cain looks at Abel, then exits. Abel stays, pretending to watch sheep.)

BROOK:
It looks as if Cain is maybe jealous or angry at Abel.

(Darren looks at the scripture.)

DARREN:
It says that when it came time to offer a sacrifice to God, Abel gave the best of all his sheep.

BROOK:
Abel’s sacrifice was done sincerely, because he really loved and believed in God.

(Abel kneels and mimes putting something in front of him, then goes into prayer stance, still on his knees. Cain enters and sees Abel. Putting down his shovel, Cain looks around on the ground, [miming] picking up fruit and putting it into a basket.)

DARREN:
Meanwhile, Cain just decided to pick up the fruit that had already fallen to the ground.

BROOK:
Ew! Gross. But then, it’s not like God is really going to eat any of it anyway. Right?

DARREN:
Well, to sacrifice means we give up something that is valuable. And everything we have is because of God, so He deserves the very best! Not the rotten stuff that we would not even eat or use. I mean, to give back to God our first fruit, like when we tithe, shows God how much we trust Him, and how thankful we are. God then blesses us for doing that.

(Cain finishes and [mimes] places the basket down on the ground in front of Abel, as if that’s the altar area but steps back, standing, with his hands on his hips, like Cain has no regard for what he just did.)

BROOK:
Ahhh, so that’s why God appreciated the sacrifice that Abel gave, but did not appreciate Cain’s sacrifice which was not a sacrifice at all, because Cain only gave God the rotten leftover fruit.

DARREN:
But this still made Cain very jealous and angry, and it started to show on the outside.

(With an angry sneer, Cain watches Abel get up and exit.)

BROOK:
So Cain was not only jealous and hated his brother, but it sounds like he really hated God.

DARREN:
And still, because God wants to have a personal relationship with everyone, God spoke to Cain.

(As God speaks, Cain crosses his arms in anger.)

GOD’S VOICE:
Cain, why are you angry? It has begun to show on the outside. But if you change your inside, and your attitude, it will change what you do. If you do not change your attitude, you will fall into sin. Sin is waiting for you, but you must choose to master it, with My help.

(Cain starts to pace, thinking, angry...)

DARREN:
That sounds easy enough.

BROOK:
Yeah, and God was right there talking with him, and trying to help him.

(Cain suddenly picks up his shovel and exits with anger.)

DARREN:
I think Cain has made a decision-

BROOK:
(covering her eyes)
Oh no, and I do not think it’s a good one. I cannot watch.

DARREN:
That’s not the answer! Killing someone!? How is that the answer? The problem was with his own heart and attitude.

(Cain enters, now with an evil smile. Cain turns around when he hears God’s voice.)

GOD’S VOICE:
(knowingly)
Cain, where is your brother, Abel?

BROOK:
Of course, God already knows the answer! God is just giving Cain a chance to repent of his sins, so he can reconcile with God and have a personal relationship with Him.

CAIN:
(arrogantly)
I do not know. Am I - my brother’s keeper?

DARREN:
Wrong answer! And still the wrong attitude!

(As God speaks, Cain tries to ignore Him.)

GOD’S VOICE:
What have you done, Cain? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground. So now you are cursed from the ground. As you farm the land, it will no longer give you good crops. You will be a man without a home, wandering the earth.

CAIN:
(reacting with concern)
That punishment is too much for me! Look! Without my farm, and without Your protection, anyone who finds me will want to kill me.

BROOK:
Even Cain realizes that choosing not to be close to God is dangerous! So, why would you NOT want to be close to God?

GOD’S VOICE:
I will make a sign for you, saying, that if anyone kills Cain, there will be severe vengeance. This will protect you.

CAIN:
At least that’s something. I’m out of here.

(Cain takes his shovel and exits.)

BROOK:
And look at that, Cain does not even thank God for STILL protecting him? God did not have to do that.

DARREN:
Cain went away from God’s presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. Getting married, they had a son called Enoch.

BROOK:
What about poor Adam and Eve? They kind of just lost both their sons. Their good son was killed, and the other son just left.

DARREN:
Adam and Eve eventually had another son, named Seth, who had a son named Enosh. This family became a people who worshiped God.

SCENE 3:

ENDING OPTION 3A:
(If using this as a stand-alone skit.)

DARREN:
(closing the Bible)
It’s nice to see that someone back then chose to have a personal relationship with God. While God has a plan, He is so very patient with us!

BROOK:
(talking while they exit)
I’m just so thankful that God loves us that much to never give up on us! Because, it is all about having a close personal relationship with Him!

ENDING OPTION 3B:
(If you are continuing on in the series.)

(Darren closes the Bible.)

DARREN:
It’s nice to see that someone back then chose to have a personal relationship with God. While God has a plan, He is so very patient with us!

BROOK:
(talking while they exit)
I’m just so thankful that God loves us that much to never give up on us! Because, it is all about having a close personal relationship with Him! I guess we’ll find out next week if other people make that decision.
